MIS 251 Computer Architecture & System Software
In this course, we study the theoretical and practical aspects of computer systems. We start with representation of data in computing. We then study computer hardware, including the organization of CPU and memory, peripheral devices. Lastly, including operating system concepts are covered.
Introduction to system architecture concepts, number systems, data representation, numerical data formats, fundamental CPU design, instruction cycles, bus and memory concepts, modern CPU design, CISC/RISC, addressing I/O, interrupts, DMA, output devices system concepts a brief introduction to data communication technology&hardware, introduction to the operating system, user interfaces, process concepts; scheduling, memory management, examples of operating systems: Android, IOS, Unix/Linux, Windows etc. Also, some popular topics in IT sectors such as cloud computing, server virtualization will be discussed in the classroom.
