My research areas are climate physics and experimental soft matter physics. In climate physics our group is using RegCM to model regional climates in Turkey. We are also involved in research of granular matter, in particular sand and sand motion. Other areas of interest include computational evolutionary biology and statistical climate prediction.

I am interested in the application of statistical mechanics to problems in combinatorics and graph theory. Lately, I have been working on problems such as the statistics of word occurences in random texts, which has also applications to genomic sequence analysis, the stochastic modelling of gene interaction networks and more recently on problems related to the classification of vertices of empirical networks based upon the assumption that the local connectivity is largely determined by some intrinsic but often unknown properties of the vertices themselves.
